Knox Academy is a state school situated in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. At census 2016 the roll was 761. The curriculum provides a full range of subjects from S1-S6. We aim to meet the needs of all the pupils, providing a curriculum that is appropriate in terms of breadth, depth and challenge. The Physical Education Department forms part of the Health & Well Being Faculty (Guidance, Home Economics, Personal & Social Education, Physical Education). The department delivers the full range of Physical Education courses, is innovative, inclusive and attracts a high uptake in certificated courses.
There is a proud tradition of excellent education in Haddington and the pupils, staff and parents of the school work hard to continue this.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic and with the ability to communicate their enthusiasm to the pupils and other staff and with a track record of delivering Physical Education courses. They should be prepared to demonstrate a commitment to self-evaluation and lifelong professional learning.
The post is to cover long term absence for a permanent member of staff, and may terminate early with appropriate notice should the post holder return to school before 30 June 2017. Consideration will be given to part-time staff who apply for this post, particularly with availability on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday when the timetable demand is at a peak.
Teachers who join East Lothian Council during the school session will only be entitled to a pro-rata salary and annual leave entitlement until the end of the session. A calculation will be carried out upon commencement and pay will be adjusted in the first available pay period to ensure they are paid correctly. Teaching relevant subject through S1-S6.
Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following categories-
Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
Developing the school curriculum
Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school
