In February 2003, the Scottish Executive launched the National Physical Activity Strategy which clearly defined Active Schools as an area of focus. sportscotland is committed to investing in the Active Schools Network and its fundamental aim of offering all children and young people the opportunities and motivation to adopt active, healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood. 


In order to strengthen its Active Schools team, East Renfrewshire Council, in partnership with sportscotland, currently wish to appoint an Active Schools Coordinator.


This is a key appointment to support current, and develop new, opportunities for school pupils to participate in regular, frequent, safe and fun physical activity (incorporating sport, play, health and active travel).


This position will be appointed under Local Government conditions to allow flexible deployment in relation to holidays and other out of school commitments.

Essential Candidate Specification

  • Educated to degree level or GTC registered.
  • Clearly demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the aims of the Active Schools Network.
  • Extensive experience of engaging with children and young people through sport and physical activity in education, sport, health, community, leisure and/or recreation industries.



On 2 July 2015, East Renfrewshire Council transferred the delivery of its culture and leisure services to an arms-length organisation, East Renfrewshire Culture & Leisure Limited. The successful applicant will be an employee of ERCL.
