Job Description

The Event
In 2023, Glasgow and locations across Scotland are hosting the inaugural UCI Cycling World Championships, bringing together 13 world championships into one unprecedented event. Glasgow Life will deliver the sport competition, events and additional programmes in the city on behalf of Cycling World Championships 2023 Ltd and is expanding its team to deliver the world’s biggest ever cycling event. Glasgow leads the way on hosting major cultural and sporting events, using existing world class facilities we will deliver 7 of the 13 cycling disciplines bringing new ideas, partnerships and initiatives to the city, enriching urban living by animating the city in the lead up to and beyond the event to drive lasting legacy to the city. 

This role will be based within Glasgow Life which is the charity providing the support, inspiration and opportunity for Glasgow’s citizens to access the services that matter most to them.  Working across museums, the arts, music, sport, world-class events, festivals, libraries, community facilities, and physical activity, learning and heritage programmes; the scale and reach of our activity makes a real and positive impact on the lives of Glasgow’s residents and creates unforgettable experiences for our visitors.

The Role 
We are recruiting an Assistant Volunteer Manager, to join our 3,000 strong team of dedicated staff and volunteers. You will be responsible for delivering the national volunteering programme and the scoping of the Championships full volunteer requirement of around 3,000-4,000 volunteers. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring sufficient volunteers, with the appropriate skills are recruited, trained and subsequently deployed to their Championship time roles.

To be successful in this role you have the following skills and experience:
• Employment experience in working with and directly managing the welfare of a large number of volunteers
• Ability to assimilate large volumes of information and organise into a clear and communicable format
• Experience of working in partnership with multiple stakeholders
• Excellent communication and outstanding people skills

Selection Process 
Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed either in person or online, dates are provisionally scheduled for October 2022.

29 days (rising to 34 days after 5 years) pro rata, plus 6.5 public holidays, pension fund, staff discounts and an annual purchase scheme.

We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in, however as the event in 2023 nears there is the expectation that more time will be required in office.
