Job Description

If you enjoy helping young people and are committed to making a difference to their lives - this could be the perfect job for you. Experience working in a residential setting is desirable. Applicants must evidence: relational skills with young people, families and other professionals; good communication skills both verbal and written; good understanding of care planning process; knowledge of current legislation and good practice guidance and a demonstrated commitment to safeguards for children in residential care and Children’s Rights. An understanding of Child Development is also desirable, but all candidates must be able to respond relationally and in a non-punitive way to the trauma responses of young people. 
Candidates must be motivated to achieving the best possible outcomes for young people, by working with young people to identify goals that are developmentally appropriate. Candidates should be creative, caring and compassionate in their approach to working with young people, and be committed to ensuring that young people’s care experience is positive, developmental and fun. Applicants must also be flexible as the posts provide a citywide care service therefore staff may require to be moved to Houses where service needs predict.  Appointees will work to a Shift rota work (attached) which includes weekend working. 
We are seeking applicants who possess both HNC Social Services and SVQ (Children and Young People) at SCQF level 7 or equivalent.  Applicants must be registered with SSSC or be fully registered within 6 months of taking up appointment.  Pay award pending

Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme will be essential on taking up appointment. Please note successful candidates for the above position will be required to pay for their PVG Membership/or Scheme Checks.

These posts are excepted under Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013 (as amended).

Salary for this post will be pro –rata.

Hours of work will either be 37 hours (Day Shift) or 30 hours (Night Shift)
