Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, provides support for children with a range of physical, social, emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 45 children to our largest secondary with over 1500 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 13 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.
Lasswade High School is the largest secondary school in Midlothian with a roll in excess of 1500 students. The school’s catchment area covers the towns of Bonnyrigg, Loanhead, Rosewell and surrounding villages. We also receive several placing requests as a result of our strong reputation from within and beyond Midlothian. Lasswade has a strong record as a school and provides a wide range of opportunities for our students.
Bonnyrigg is a small town in Midlothian a little over six miles south east of the centre of Edinburgh. It forms the south eastern part of a larger settlement created when it merged with Lasswade. In recent times Bonnyrigg has thrived because of its proximity to Edinburgh. Its centre is less than two miles by road from the Edinburgh bypass and this is one of the factors that have caused significant amounts of new housing to be built around the edges of the town in the last decade leading to a significant growth in school roll. There are also very good public transport links with Edinburgh and the nearby Eskbank railway station, the Waverley Line, from Edinburgh to the Borders.
The Scottish Futures Trust £37m Lasswade High School incorporates a community hub with library, leisure centre, nursery, swimming pool and state of the art sports facilities. The school has over 90 classrooms and high quality facilities to support learning and teaching.
Lasswade High School has a School Leadership Team consisting of a Head Teacher and five Depute Head Teachers.
Our House, Creative Learning and Complex Needs Provision underpin our Student Support system.
There are over 140 teaching and support staff in 12 Curricular Area Teams. Each team benefits from its own Principal Teacher leading on curriculum, learning & teaching, improving student outcomes and supporting positive relationships.
We have successful working relationships and transition arrangements with our cluster primary schools and nurseries; the quality of this joint working has been recognised by Education Scotland who also highlighted strong community partnerships.
The school has an extremely supportive and vibrant Parent Council.
All our work is underpinned by our DREAM values.
There is no substitute for experiencing the ethos of Lasswade High School and we look forward to welcoming you to our school.
