Job Description

To assist in the effective operation of an individual catering unit to the highest standard in respect of all users of the service.

Requirements

Prepare and/or ensure preparation of food products to meet the quality standards of Environmental Protection and statutory regulations.

Ensure that food and drink are well presented and pleasantly served in an attractive manner.

Ensure that any meals transported outwith the unit are delivered and served in the same manner as those within the unit.

The Assistant Cook will be required to take on the role of the Catering Supervisor for short periods when situation arises.

Washing up – handwashing or machine when required.

Collection and receipt of goods.

Equipment and pot washing when required.

Surface cleaning and general tidying.

Cash handling and other simple cashier duties.

To ensure a high standard of customer care in respect of all users of services.

To ensure that the highest standards of Health and Safety are applied whilst performing the duties of the post.

To carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time.

The Individual

Experience of working in a kitchen or catering environment.

Catering Qualification (SVQ) or equivalent Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate.

Effective organisation and time management skills.

Ability to work as part of a team.

Interest in cooking and presentation.

Interest and promotion of healthy eating.

Ability to follow instructions e.g. menu recipes, guidelines, etc.

Ability to handle cash and complete simple transaction forms.

Assist in planning workload.

Ability to use own initiative.

Effective communication skills.

Communicate courteously and effectively with all colleagues,
pupils and suppliers.

Ability to lift large pots and pans in a safe manner and
standing for long periods of time.

Display and maintain a high standard of personal hygiene.

Be able to work within Health and Safety standards and Food
Hygiene regulations.
