This post will support the development and delivery of communications and engagement to press, public and staff during the roll-out of the expanded Early Learning Entitlement (ELE) initiative via a range of platforms and media, including the production of creative content for social media and web-based platforms.
Lead on the development of the ELE communications strategy and practise
1.Assist with the creation of content for the council’s ELE communication activities with press, public and staff
2.Provide a point of contact for media enquiries and create engaging press releases
3.Provide advice and guidance to council staff, heads of service, senior managers and councillors on media issues as required.
4.Attend council meetings and provide publicly accessible reports
5.Assist with the planning, promotion and implementation of public engagement events
6.Participate in the Council’s Employee Review and Development Programme
Good understanding of local government and strong background in communications industry.
Relevant Degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing or other relevant discipline
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to use photographic equipment
Experienced social media user
Adaptable, self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
Excellent written skills and ability to meet deadlines
Good understanding of needs and working practices of print, broadcast and digital media
Ability to spot a story
Experience in public engagement
Ability to work as a member of a team
Effective interviewing, listening and influencing skills
Ability to engage effectively with the public
Ability to focus on agreed objectives to ensure they are achieved within agreed timescales.
Proven ability to plan and manage workload, work to tight deadlines
Experience of working in a confidential environment
