Chair of Adult Protection Committee and Chair of Child Protection Committee

Temporary for 2 years (subject to annual appraisal)

£350 per day (plus travelling expenses,Up to 36 days per annum for APC, Up to 48 days per annum for CPC.

North Lanarkshire is seeking to appoint an independent Chair or Chairs for their Adult and Child Protection Committees.  As Chair you will ensure the Committee fulfils their duties in accordance with national guidance and legislation, contribute to service development and practice improvement and undertake associated responsibilities and functions and provide the Chief Officers Group with assurance on the effectiveness of the policy framework and inter-agency working in relation to adult or child protection services.   You will also represent the partnership in national fora linking with the Scottish Government to ensure we continue to participate in and are informed on national developments. 

For each role we require a highly motivated and credible individual with proven leadership abilities to convene the Committee and ensure it fulfils it’s statutory obligations, compliance with national guidance and promotes high standards in public protection. You should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of national developments in relation to Adult or Child Protection and their interconnection with the wider public protection agenda.    You will work closely with key partners including Police and NHS Lanarkshire.  The role involves hybrid working with a mix of remote and face to face.

The Chair of each Committee will provide strong strategic leadership in delivering the public protection which will include the promotion of outcomes for children and adults consistent with GIRFEC/ GIRFE principles within a context of continuous improvement.  The role is pivotal to each of the Committees fulfilling its remit for co-ordination, planning, improvement and public engagement for the purposes of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and adults in North Lanarkshire.

You must have substantial experience of work at senior, strategic and operational level, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and have a successful track record in leading internal and external strategy and public sector governance processes. You should also be able to evidence a sound understanding of relevant legislation, guidance, policy and practice within which the Adult or Child Protection Committees operate.

You should be educated to degree level with a relevant professional qualification and be able evidence continuous professional development throughout your career. The Chairs are separate roles but if you have the knowledge, experience and capacity you may wish to express your interest in both.

You will require to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member prior to commencing in this role.

*For all casual/sessional roles, you will receive 12.1% of your hourly rate for every hour worked in total recompense for annual leave, including public holidays. These rates will be indicated separately on your payslip.  You will only be paid for the hours that you work.
