Orkney Islands Council is looking for a diligent and motivated Assistant Procurement Officer to join the Council's Procurement service.

The post holder will work with the Procurement Officers and the Service Manager (Procurement) in the provision of procurement support and advice across the full range of local government service areas. The Procurement team is very busy, working hard to secure the effective and timely acquisition of goods, services and works, and the continued achievement of value for money in accordance with the Council’s corporate policies. The post holder will actively help the Procurement Team to meet the challenges of a number of exciting new strategic infrastructure development projects.

The successful candidate will have an interest in procurement and be able to provide effective and efficient support to the wider team. It is very important that the candidate is flexible and able to operate proactively within a challenging and changing public sector environment. The successful candidate should also have good task management, planning, communication and analytical skills.

The minimum knowledge required for this role can be evidenced by either holding a qualification at SCQF 8/9 (i.e. SVQ4, HND, General Degree, Higher Apprenticeship, Technical Apprenticeship) or having a minimum of 5 years preious relevant experience, as detailed in the experience section of the person specification.
