We are looking for a skilled and motivated individual who is capable of working in a multi-disciplinary context to deliver positive outcomes for children, young people and their families. As Community Learning Officer, reporting to Team Manager – CLD Youth Services, you will manage a small team of Pupil Equity Workers based within Kirkwall Grammar and Papdale Primary School.
The role will involve building positive relationships with pupils and families; to maximise wellbeing, and raise pupils’ aspirations, achievement and attainment, to work towards closing the poverty related equity gap. You will co-ordinate the development and delivery of learning opportunities for children and young people both within and out with the school environment, liaising closely with school Senior Management and collaborating with other relevant partners to ensure a multi-agency coherence of support which will encourage learning and raise pupils’ attendance and engagement, with a particular focus on Pupil Equity Funding priority groups.
A whole system approach will be adopted to achieve positive outcomes for the whole family. Measures of success for young people will include improved school attendance, reduction in exclusions, improved attainment and achievement and positive school leaver destinations. You will have the skills to use a range of monitoring and evaluation processes to plan, deliver and review the impact of service provision, providing reports when necessary.
This is a full-time position which will also include co-ordination and development of relevant programmes during school holiday periods.
You should hold a degree, or equivalent level qualification, in Community Learning and Development, Youth Work or Community Work.
You should hold a professional registration as a Member of the CLD Standards Council for Scotland, or work towards achieving registration within 6 months of appointment.
You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
The post is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children.
