Senior HR Adviser

£42,162 – £44,589 (including Distant Islands Allowance)

The Council is currently implementing a restructure of its operating model which includes additional investment in the Human Resources and Organisational Development Team to carry forward an ambitious programme of improvement and development.

We believe these new roles within the HR and OD structure, represent an exciting opportunity to transform our current service model and focus on the strategic aims of the Council’s new People Plan, driving improvement and development as well as continuing to deliver the best possible services for our internal and external customers.

We are seeking a Senior HR Adviser to join a small team of HR professionals who provide a comprehensive service across the Council. The size and nature of the HR service means that roles are broad rather than highly specialised, which allows team members unique opportunities to be involved in a wide range of HR work.

The role reports the Service Manager (HR Operations) and will take responsibility for being the lead operational HR adviser to allocated areas of Council Services. You will manage and be supported by a small team of HR Advisors. As well as working closely with specific service areas, you will get the opportunity to be involved in the development of corporate HR policies, strategies and initiatives.

We require an individual who is able to work effectively with a range of stakeholders including senior management, managers, staff, and Trade Unions, and is able to translate HR policy and best practice into realistic and pragmatic solutions that meet the needs of the organisation.

Experience within the public sector is desirable but not essential provided you understand the context in which Local Government operates. More important is your commitment to a high level of service delivery and customer service with a drive to secure the best outcomes for staff and the Council.

Ideally you will already hold Chartered membership of the CIPD in addition to a degree level qualification. However if you have completed your postgraduate qualifications but are still progressing towards full Chartered status we would like to hear from you.

If you would like to know more about the role or discuss its requirements, please contact Craig Walker, Service Manager (HR Operations) on craig.walker@orkney.gov.uk or Tel: 01856 873535 ex 2263.

Closing date: Sunday 11 December 2022

Please note that interview and relocation expenses will be paid for this post in accordance with Council Policy.
