From food to sports, music to technology, Orkney has a reputation for excellence. Scotland’s smallest local authority enjoys unique opportunities for collaboration with partner agencies.

Reporting to the Service Manager you will manage the day-to-day workload of the Maintenance and Heritage team and implement and monitor maintenance programmes and will provide budgetary control of the reactive maintenance budget for Housing, ensuring programme, quality related issues, customer care, specification and safety requirements are met.

You should be able to demonstrate the full range of professional duties associated with property maintenance, with a good understanding of construction detailing, materials specification, together with an understanding of contract issues and CDM Regulations.

You will be customer focused and will continually seek ways to improve all aspects of our service delivery model and actively support colleagues to implement changes to policies and working practices.

You are required to hold a qualification in Building Maintenance or Facilities Management at SCQF 8/9 i.e. SVQ4, HND, General Degree, Higher Apprenticeship, Technical Apprenticeship. Or you should have a minimum of 5 years previous relevant experience where the essential qualification is not held. Membership of an appropriate professional body e.g., RICS, CIOB or RIBA is essential.

The post holder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme which is a career average revalued earnings (CARE) defined benefit scheme, for which the employer contribution paid is currently 17.0%, representing a benefit from £7,168 to £7,580 in addition to the salary paid.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.
