Refuse Collection Driver - PKC08323

The overall purpose of the job is to carry out the day-to-day operation of the post holders allocated vehicle, the collection and delivery of various types of recycling materials associated with the Councils kerb side collection schemes, recycling centres and recycling points. Driving of various allocated vehicles, the collection and delivery of various types of recycling materials associated with the Councils kerb side collection schemes, recycling centres and recycling points and completion of relevant daily paperwork.

Whilst not driving - The day-to-day operation of the site loading shovels, the loading of various waste and recycling materials into trailers and de-mountable containers / Skips within the transfer station.

You will undertake ancillary duties as appropriate to the type of work carried out by The Environment Service.

You will follow through and comply with The Environment Service safe systems of work for Refuse Collection (copies available on request).

You are required to be available to work on a standby basis working additional hours outside normal working hours, including weekdays, as part of a rota with other staff in the performance of various works required by managers.  Such works are usually planned in advance but may also have been unforeseeable in which case short term availability maybe required. 

The Environment Service is currently working under new ways of working that has moved from the traditional Monday to Friday working; to a shift pattern that may include weekend working.  The overall aim of the exercise is to secure a modern system that will comply with all Road Transport Regulations and provide continuous seven days a week working. 

The shift pattern for this post is Monday-Thursday.

The Individual

To be successful, you must have a valid UK driving licence, including Category C plus C1E. 

You will be aware of Road Transport Regulations, you will be able to carry out the physical demands of the job, and as a representative of the Council, you will have the ability to communicate effectively with members of the public as well as colleagues.
You will bring a positive energy; have the ability to work well as part of a team.   

You will have a full driving licence, enabling you to drive other vehicles as necessary.  You will be aware of Health & Safety legislation, you will have effective visual skills with the ability to ensure the safety of other road users and pedestrians, you will have the ability to carry out vehicle inspections, ensuring that your vehicle is safe to drive and meets all legal requirements.   You will have the ability to operate a tachograph and to navigate in and around the Perth & Kinross area.
