An opportunity has arisen to join the Mental Health Officer Team as a Mental Health Social Worker.  We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated social worker who will be closely aligned with community and hospital based mental health services, to work with adults with severe and enduring mental health needs who are in need of support and whose needs are complex. You will undertake a social work role, linking closely with in-patient services and supporting the needs of people with severe and enduring mental health needs. You will be closely involved with discharge planning and will work collaboratively with Mental Health Officers and with NHS partners, completing comprehensive outcome focussed assessments, developing and supporting the implementation of personal outcome and recovery focussed care plans. You will be involved in risk assessment and risk management work, including Adult Support and Protection work, to support individuals with complex mental health needs in the community. You will be experienced in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals, carers and other agencies, and will be experienced in developing and sustaining inter-agency working relationships.  


The Individual

You should hold a degree in Social Work, or equivalent, and be a professionally registered practitioner, as per SSSC requirements. A Mental Health Officer qualification is desirable but not essential. The post holder will have the knowledge and skills to be involved in the effective management of a varied and busy caseload, with a genuine interest in supporting people with a wide range of issues. You should be highly motivated, innovative and flexible in your approach, as well as clear and concise in both written and verbal communication. The post holders will demonstrate good written, IT and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate skills and experience in assessment, care planning and review processes. The post holders must have a genuine interest in working with people in a recovery focussed way to improve their mental health and wellbeing. This post may be suitable for candidates who have recently completed their Social Work Degree but have not yet graduated. In this circumstance, a Social Work Assistant contract will be offered until you receive your qualifying certificate and are eligible to register with the SSSC as a Social Worker.
