Waste Services Assistant  PKC10013
£23,631 - £25,903 Fixed Term (until 31 March 2024)

Waste Services are responsible for the strategic development and management of services which support the collection and disposal of waste and recyclable materials. Waste Services are therefore the main customer interface for these services with over 70,000 households and over 1800 businesses across Perth and Kinross. 

Waste services also undertake litter & fly-tipping prevention and management activities, oversee local public toilets and comfort schemes and develop and deliver promotional waste education and awareness campaigns. 

A fixed term vacancy has arisen for a Waste Services Assistant to join our busy Waste Services Team. 

The fixed term post holder will be responsible for supporting the Commercial Waste Team of 3 Commercial Waste Officers (CWOs) with the management of all processes involved in delivering the recycling centre permit schemes and the coordination of missed collections for our commercial customer base.

As the successful post holder, you will also support the Commercial Waste Team by processing and delivering recycling centre prepayment vouchers and refuse sacks in addition to monitoring commercial collection rounds to ensure that our commercial customers are receiving their contracted services    

You will also be trained in processes associated with Community Waste Services such as online purchasing of garden waste permits to enable cross team working during staff leave or other absences.

To be successful in this role you will be a motivated individual who has the ability to work in a fast paced customer focused environment.

You must be a strong and effective communicator verbally and in writing.  

Experience of working directly with customers would be an advantage.

You should be a confident IT user who can contribute to the development/ improvement of digital processes.

The Individual

You will have a general knowledge of Perth & Kinross Council's refuse collection and recycling services and will be experienced in coordinating extensive processes including competence in the use of multiple IT systems.

You will enjoy a customer facing role and may have experience of working directly with the public, businesses and service providers and will have a basic knowledge of budget monitoring and statistical reporting.

Being a strong and effective written and oral communicator is essential, as is the ability to be organised.

You must be self motivated and able to work on your own initiative with little supervision.

You will be able to work under pressure and be capable of dealing with tight deadlines.

You must have a valid driving licence as this post requires you to travel to a variety of locations across Perth and Kinross.
