Job Description

With an approved capital budget of over £160m, Renfrewshire Council is seeking a finance professional who can support the delivery of sound financial management for the people of Renfrewshire. We have an exciting opportunity to join our central Corporate Finance Team, monitoring and accounting for the Council’s many and varied capital projects. You will take a leading role in capital accounting within Finance Services and report to the Finance Manager. The main duties of the post include VAT and capital planning, reporting and monitoring; capital and fixed asset elements of the annual statutory accounts, annual statistical returns and monthly VAT returns; and provision of financial support and advice to Finance Business Partners and senior managers within the Council in the development and maintenance of effective financial controls. You will have line management responsibility for two members of staff. You should be a CCAB, CIMA or equivalent qualified accountant with experience of working in a similar role, ideally in a public sector accounting environment. You will be a great communicator, both verbally and through report writing, and have significant experience in using and developing management reporting, financial systems and processes. You should be able to produce financial analysis to a high standard. If this sounds like you, we would love you to come and join our team. We operate a hybrid working model, with the Finance team predominantly working from home and attending Renfrewshire House (Paisley) for team meetings, quiet space, training, induction, and other collaborative purposes. The structure of the Corporate Finance team is shown below. We have a range of excellent staff policies in place, including a great pension scheme, a Cycle to Work salary sacrifice scheme, a flexible working policy and we offer support for working carers, as a Carer Positive employer. If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
