The Assessor & ERO compiles and maintains the Valuation Roll, Council Tax Valuation List and Registers of Electors for the Scottish Borders Council area. We provide high quality, transparent, effective and responsive services to all of our stakeholders.
This is a statutory appointment in terms of Section 27 of the Local Government etc (Scotland) Act 1994 and candidates must be qualified as a Fellow or Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to manage, control and direct a dedicated team of professional and technical valuation staff. You will also have experience of meeting strategic goals and performance targets. You will contribute to the development and improvement of services to better meet the needs of stakeholders. You should be a skilled communicator, have proven leadership abilities and a knowledge of IT systems.
Manage the strategic planning, organisation and delivery of the Assessor’s statutory functions to meet the business planning objectives and statutory requirements under the Valuation Acts for:
1. Council Tax Valuation
2. Non Domestic Rating Valuation
The post holder will strategically lead, motivate and develop the Valuation Section to ensure resources are deployed to meet both the business and statutory requirements.
The Depute Assessor supports the Assessor and Electoral Registration Officer, in carrying out their statutory duties, in relation to Section 27 of the Local Government, etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, appointed. This includes acting as the statutorily appointed depute in the specialised and complex areas of Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rating.
Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject, or relevant experience
Member or Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS/FRICS)
You should have substantial experience of the law and practice of the Valuation Acts.
A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post.
