Modern Apprenticeships (MA) offer new entrants to the labour market the chance of paid employment combined with the opportunity to do training relevant to the occupational area. They include the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications that help kick-start a career without having to study full-time. New entrants include school and college leavers, those with no previous work experience and/or vocational qualifications. Attendance on a day release basis at Edinburgh College is part of the training programme and the successful candidate will study for an HNC Civil Engineering and a SVQ in Construction Contracting Operations.
As a MA Trainee Civil Engineering Technician you will be required to provide technical support to civil engineers on a range of infrastructure projects undertaken by the Council.
The post-holder will undertake a structured training programme, which is likely to include experience in various sections as appropriate:
Engineering – Bridges, Flood and Coastal and Engineering Design and Construction
Infrastructure Management – Traffic and Network Management
Roads Planning Service
In accordance with Scottish Borders Council priorities you will need to be aged 16 to 24 (at the starting date of the Apprenticeship) to qualify for this position
5 standard Grades, or National Qualifications, including English and Maths
A Higher pass in either Maths, Physics, a technical subject or significant appropriate work experience
