There are several posts available within the Planning Service to cover periods of family leave.

The main focus of the Development Plans post will be the preparation of the Local Development Plan, but there will also be opportunities to get involved in other aspects of planning such as Masterplanning, Placemaking, Local Place Plans and Locality Planning. Relevant experience in policy development and planning at local authority level would be an advantage in this role.

The main focus of the Development Management post is to ensure that development and changes in land use occur in suitable locations and are sustainable so Shetland can remain a beautiful and rewarding place to live. Relevant experience in development management and planning at local authority level would be an advantage in this role.

We’re looking for people who are motivated, enthusiastic and highly organised, with excellent written, numeracy and verbal communication skills. You will be a people person with excellent negotiation skills. You will be educated to degree level with an RTPI recognised qualification be able to analyse and interpret data, prepare reports and briefings, take part and lead on topic groups and manage projects.

  • Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,235 per annum 
  • This post is career graded - your salary and career progression will depend on your experience and qualifications
  • Temporary Full Time post for 37 hours per week, 52.18 weeks per year
  • Temporary contract for a period of approximately 12 months.  This is for the duration of a period of family leave, and will terminate following the return to work or resignation of the postholder
