Community and Enterprise Resources

Location: 18 Forrest Street, Blantyre

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and further develop an experienced, innovative and forward thinking Waste team working across South Lanarkshire.  The Waste team covers the whole Council area and is responsible for domestic refuse and recycling collection, including special uplifts. The team is also responsible for the provision of household waste and recycling centres and the treatment, recycling and disposal of waste. 

Requirements

You will undertake the strategic and operational leadership role in respect of the Council’s waste management service, ensuring effective deployment of resources to meet service delivery and performance standards.  You will also report to the Head of Service, manage, support and direct a function within a service effectively deploying and adapting resources to meet service delivery and performance standards and mobilise the energies and talents of the employees.

Main Accountabilities include:

  • Directing and managing the delivery of the waste management service, fulfilling the Council’s statutory duties and requirements and to meet European and National policies, targets and recommend solutions to ensure compliance.
  • Monitoring the quality and performance of waste services, including in-house operation and contract management of external providers.
  • Continually review service provision to ensure the service is aligned to comply with changes in national policies and targets and is identifying opportunities to diversify services provided.
  • Ensuring that supporting waste data information systems are available and managed appropriately, to enable the Council to meet legislative targets.

You must have the ability to inspire others, be adaptable and work well in a challenging and demanding environment with a wide range of stakeholders. You should be solution focused, with excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.  Suitable candidates for this exciting role will demonstrate experience and understanding of the key challenges facing Community and Enterprise Resources. You should also have:

-  A degree or equivalent in a relevant subject

- Relevant expertise in a senior managerial role in waste management and political expertise within a local    government environment

- Institution of Occupational Safety and Health Certified

- Political expertise within a Local Government environment
