The Planning Service in South Lanarkshire Council is seeking to recruit graduate planners.
(23 month fixed term and permanent positions available)
Four of the posts will be located in one of the two area teams dealing with a wide range of application and development types and other exciting initiatives. The role will involve the processing of small scale non contentious householder planning applications together with advertisement, listed building and other statutory applications.
One further post will be within the HQ team and will involve the implementation of National Planning Framework 4 and preparation of the Council’s Local Development Plan 3 and supporting planning guidance. There will be an opportunity to work closely with the Economic Development service in terms of delivering the Council’s town centre and placemaking ambitions.
You will also be required to liaise with other Council services to provide information and assistance as required and respond to requests for information and assistance from our customers.
The successful applicant will hold an RTPI accredited Planning Qualification. The successful candidate will have the ability to travel throughout South Lanarkshire.

Processing planning, advertisement, listed building and other statutory applications; monitoring development approvals and consents; providing development advice to householders, agents, developers and landowners; initiating statutory action to secure compliance with planning consents; investigating and taking appropriate action to secure the cessation of unauthorised planning activities
The preparation and implementation of development and design policies and advice; the production of development and disposal briefs; the preparation and implementation of urban and rural design and conservation policies and proposals.
Preparing and presenting the Council’s case at appeals, inquiries and hearings. Preparation and presentation of reports to Committees.
Preparation of planning policies and strategies and contribution to the preparation and implementation of corporate and other Service strategies.
Liaising with other sections within the Service to provide information and assistance as required. Responding to requests for information and assistance, participate in discussions as appropriate. Provide information and advice on planning matters to members of the general public, community and other organisations, Elected Members, developers, development agencies and other services.
