South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Ltd

Location: South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Floor 5, Council Offices, Almada Street, Hamilton

Hours: 28 hours per week

Shift Pattern:

Any combination of 4 days between Monday - Thursday, 8.45am - 16.45pm,  Friday, 08.45am - 16.15pm 

Duration: Permanent

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, Finance Services are looking for an accountant.

Finance Services provides sound financial stewardship to ensure South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture's priorities are effectively funded and expenditure including procurement is appropriately monitored, controlled, and reported.

South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture's Finance Services responsibilities include budget strategy, budget monitoring, preparation of year end accounts and providing financial support to the Trust.

This post is based in the Strategy Team, and you will be responsible to the Finance Manager for the effective delivery of the finance provision in accordance with the Trust's statutory responsibilities, policies and procedures.

You will be required to contribute towards providing quality advice and support to various departments to allow them to delivery services to the communities of South Lanarkshire. 

You will be involved in setting budgets for the coming year and monitoring the performance against these budgets.  Assistance in year end accounts preparation will also be a key role.  Other elements of the job include preparation of financial returns, preparation of Board reports and general financial stewardship of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture's financial resource.

The Individual

The successful candidate should have experience within a financial environment, (ideally public sector)  and evidence technical job knowledge and expertise and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the finance function within a specialist area and cross working within an organisation.

You should be able to demonstrate compliance with professional codes of practice.

As part of the role, you will be required to challenge, support, and improve existing business practices, reporting on their effectiveness, reliability, and/or value for money to provide assurance to management and stakeholders. You should be able to highlight risks and make recommendations for management.

Involvement in project management with associated governance responsibilities with the ability to prepare and scrutinise financial reports, budgets, accounts, and performance indicators.

You must have a Professional Accountancy qualification and membership of appropriate professional body.
