We are looking to employ suitably qualified and motivated individual to undertake the duties of an authorised technical officer within the Environmental Health & Trading Standards service. You will be part of our Public Health, Housing and Pollution Control team, and will assist the work of the team dealing with routine investigations into public health nuisances, housing, air quality, dog control, licensing and noise control issues. The service demands require flexibility to contribute to environmental health priorities as required. We are therefore looking for someone keen to make a difference, deliver the best possible service and whose focus will be keeping West Lothian as a desirable place to live and work.

You will assist with other public health and safety duties of the service as required.

The skills and experience you must have:

  • A qualification in environmental science, public health or similar subject, and / or, practical experience of working as Technical Officer within specialist function of environmental health.
  • Demonstration of ongoing professional development.
  • Experience of dealing with a wide cross section of people, with particular reference to dealing with members of the public and businesses.
  • Experience of handling complaints.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Administrative skills with regards to record keeping; report writing and; analysis of issues.
