PRIMARY TEACHER (from August 2017)

Dollar Academy is a long-established coeducational independent HMC school in central Scotland with around 1200 pupils between the ages of 5 and 18, including seventy boarders. It is set in a beautiful location and has excellent facilities. The school is oversubscribed and places are awarded on academic merit.

The Prep and Junior Schools consist of approximately 375 pupils. The Prep School has 10 classes, with two parallel groups at each level from P1 to P5. Both Junior 1 and Junior 2 (P6 and P7) are also admission stages, enabling new pupils to join the Academy in the two years leading to the Senior School. The Academy aims to provide curricular flow from age 5 to age 18, and there are demonstrable benefits of this policy.

The younger pupils in Dollar Academy enjoy an excellent grounding in the core subjects, as well as specialist lessons from Senior School staff in Art, Music, PE, Home Economics, Swimming and Technology. From Prep 4 onwards, pupils come increasingly into contact with Senior School teachers so that after Junior 2 (Primary 7) they are not only extremely well prepared academically for Senior School education, but have been introduced to some senior learning environments and to a number of Senior School teachers. The Junior School especially acts as a transition in this sense, and much of the senior curriculum, including Science, Technology and Modern Languages (French, German and Spanish), begins in Junior 1.

The academic standard throughout the school is high. We believe that we have retained what is best from traditional approaches, while incorporating the most effective modern strategies and key principles from the Curriculum for Excellence. Individual, class and group teaching methods are used; we have a well-resourced Support for Learning Department which ensures continuity of support throughout the Academy.

The Academy has a rich co-curricular programme in which all members of staff are expected to participate. The ability to coach a team in one of the school’s major sports or offer an activity would be particularly useful.

The salary for the post will be in accordance with the SNCT main grade scales with the Dollar enhancement of 10% in addition. It should be noted that the Chartered Teachers pay scale does not apply to teachers employed by the Academy.

Candidates should either be registered with the GTC Scotland, or eligible for registration.

Applicants must complete the Academy’s Teaching Staff Application Form, which can be downloaded from the school’s website - http://www.dollaracademy.org.uk/vacancies - and provide a covering letter. A CV is optional. These should be emailed to rector@dollaracademy.org.uk

The closing date is noon on Friday 3 March 2017.

All appointments are subject to receipt of a satisfactory PVG Scheme Record or Scheme Record Update from Disclosure Scotland.
