TEACHER OF HOME ECONOMICS (Part Time)

Dollar Academy is seeking to recruit a permanent, part-time, enthusiastic and suitably qualified teacher of Home Economics beginning in August 2017.

This post offers the opportunity to join a successful and dynamic department at this prestigious 5 – 18 HMC school of 1200 pupils. Dollar Academy is set in a beautiful central location, about 40 minutes north of Edinburgh.

The successful applicant will have a passion for Home Economics and will be expected to stimulate similar interest in, and enjoyment of, the subject (both food and fabric technology) across the Prep, Junior and Senior Schools.

The department consists of two other Home Economics teachers, and a subject technician.

Home Economics (fabric) is taught in Prep 3 and 4, Junior 1 and Form I. Food technology is taught in Junior 2, Form I and Form VI. Form VI classes follow a modular course during which time REHIS qualifications are acquired. Food Technology also features in the school’s Personal and Social Education programme in Form I and III; the focus of these courses is ‘Healthy Eating’. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Home Economics (food and fabric) to Prep, Junior and Senior pupils from session 2017/2018 and to contribute to the ongoing development of these courses.

Teachers are expected to promote an ethos of achievement and success, meeting the needs of all pupils, including high achievers and the less able. There is a strong ethos of teamwork within the department and the successful applicant will be expected to work effectively as part of this friendly and well-established team. The Home Economics Department is actively involved in the Academy’s co-curricular programme, offering activities such as Boarders’ Cookery classes, Fabric Club and Cookery Club. The Academy has a rich co-curricular programme in which all members of staff are expected to participate. The Home Economics department is also involved in cross-curricular activities with various subject disciplines e.g. Modern Languages, Prep and Junior Schools, Geography, as well as assisting pupils with school committee related activities.

The salary for the post will be in accordance with the SNCT main grade scales with the Dollar enhancement of 10% in addition (paid pro rata at 0.5 FTE). It should be noted that the Chartered Teachers pay scale does not apply to teachers employed by the Academy.

Candidates should either be registered with the GTC Scotland, or eligible for registration.

Applicants must complete the Academy’s Teaching Staff Application Form which can be downloaded from the Academy’s website www.dollaracademy.org.uk/vacancies and provide a covering letter. A CV is optional.

These should be emailed to rector@dollaracademy.org.uk
