We are currently seeking applications for a HM Inspector of Education within Education Scotland where location can be flexible, and based throughout Scotland. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. We are currently seeking applications for HM Inspectors within Education Scotland with a background in:

• Primary education sector

• Secondary education sector


The main purpose of the HM Inspector of Education role is to bring about improvement in standards and quality in education through external evaluative activities, identifying and disseminating highly-effective practice and building capacity to support continuous improvement. HM Inspectors of Education) undertake a programme of scrutiny, including inspections across all education sectors. Please note: This role requires a significant amount of travel and staying and working away from home as Her Majesty's Inspectors of Education are required to undertake scrutiny and inspection activity across all areas of Scotland.


Qualifications Required

You will require a relevant degree or equivalent. You will need to have a teaching qualification.

Essential Criteria

1. Significant experience of working in a senior leadership capacity within education with a proven positive impact on improving outcomes for learners.

2. High quality interpersonal skills, confidence in dealing with a range of contacts and ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.

3. Excellent skills in analysis, evaluation and communication.

4. Strong understanding of emerging developments across all aspects of Scottish education.
