The Department of Psychology is a dynamic and vibrant academic community with a strong track record of applied psychology provision that includes innovative teaching and learning, scholarly activity, research, practice and knowledge transfer activities. We were rated as top in Scotland for student satisfaction in the recent 2021 National Student Survey for undergraduate psychology programmes. To support our continuing development, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Applied Psychology who will contribute to the academic vibrancy of the Department.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can enhance our reputation in Counselling Psychology. Thus, applicants should hold a doctoral qualification in psychology and be eligible for Chartership with the British Psychological Society. We welcome applications from people who are HCPC Registered Counselling Psychologists. We recognise that applicants moving into higher education from other context (e.g., practice) may have limited direct experience of the requirements for the post. In such instances they must outline their experience, skills and achievements in such a way as to demonstrate they meet, or have the potential to meet, the essential criteria.
Lecturers are expected to inspire learning and contribute to the enhancement of the student experience across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. These include three BPS accredited/HCPC approved Doctorates in Counselling Psychology, Health Psychology and Sport & Exercise Psychology, the BPS accredited BSc (Hons) Applied Psychology and the MSc Forensic Psychology.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development and delivery of innovative learning, teaching and assessment across the portfolio. Thus, we are seeking to appoint an energetic and inventive individual with a forward-thinking vision for applied psychology. For example, innovation in the of practice of applied psychology, the open science and big data agendas in research, and/or learning technologies to support graduates in post-COVID-19 employment.
Prior experience of supporting psychology student learning, teaching and assessment in higher education and/or practice settings is essential. The Department of Psychology promotes innovation in learning and teaching and, therefore, we are keen to appoint an individual with experience of e-learning and on-line environments. A higher education teaching qualification and/or Fellow status with Advance HE is desirable. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to ensuring curricula are current and compliant with internal and external regulatory frameworks.
The successful candidate will also engage in high quality research, scholarly and/or enterprise activities that complement the work of the team, and to help develop the profile of the Department in the UK and internationally. This will require flexibility and the ability to work independently, while also contributing in a positive way to the various programme and scholarly activity teams in the Department, School and University.
