Guidance Adviser – 1 FTE (35 hours per week)

Fixed Term for up to one year (covering maternity leave)

Support Grade 4 - £27,328 - £30,819 per annum

As part of the Advice, Guidance and Learner Support Team the post-holder will provide appropriate impartial information and advice to all prospective and current learners as part of a quality, efficient and effective service.

We need you to be able to:

· Provide appropriate impartial information and advice to prospective and current students;

· Provide appropriate pastoral information and guidance to designated student groups;

· Co-ordinate written and personal applications for courses, responses to information requests and follow-up as necessary;

· Arrange and participate in pre-entry guidance interviews as necessary;

· Provide ad hoc reports and related information to senior management as necessary;

· Monitor the College’s on-line Information Service and direct enquiries to appropriate staff;

· Liaise with the College Faculties, Student Engagement Officer and Senior Funding Officer as required;

· Deliver presentations and talks to designated groups both within and outwith the College;

· Attend external and College events in a guidance role as appropriate;

· Work collaboratively as a member of the College Guidance Team;

· Assist with referrals for learners requiring additional support to learn;

· Co-ordinate in conjunction with the Team Leader in Advice, Guidance and Learner Support, applications from learners interested in applying through UCAS;

  • Promote and encourage Equality & Diversity in all aspects of College operations and embed these within student support fund processes;
  • Carry out any other duty commensurate with the post as required by the Team Leader Advice, Guidance and Learner Support and Head of Service to Support Learners.

You should have:

· Good standard of education (HNC or above);

  • Possess or working towards an appropriate guidance qualification;

Knowledge:

· Demonstrate knowledge of student issues within Further Education Student Funding;

· Specialist knowledge relating to student support and / or UCAS applications.

Skills and Competencies:

· Good level of IT Literacy including a working knowledge of MS Work, Access and Excel;

· Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a Team;

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

· Confident and self-motivated;

· Flexible – Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends to cover events; and

· Ability to construct, use and maintain a computerised database would be desirable.

Experience:

· Previous experience of working within a Further Education environment; and

· Previous experience of working within a customer care and client central environment;

· Previous experience of working with a diversity of clients especially those with special needs or speakers of other languages advantageous.
