The High School of Glasgow Junior School are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to teach Drama.

The role will provide maternity cover, with the successful candidate working on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week.

Curriculum for Excellence firmly establishes Drama as an important area of the curriculum. It emphasises the value of drama in fostering a pupil’s personal and social development and through Drama, pupils should have rich opportunities to be creative and to experience inspiration and enjoyment.

Extensive knowledge and expertise in teaching Drama within the primary setting would be preferred, but is not essential. Currently, the Drama Teacher works with Kindergarten through to Junior 6 pupils. He/she should be prepared to give time and commitment to projects beyond the classroom that would be beneficial to the education of the pupils, e.g. organising and leading rehearsals and planning and directing a school production.

The Drama Teacher currently works as part of an Expressive Arts team, along with specialist teachers in Art, Music and PE. The Drama Teacher works mainly in the Drama Studio and has a wide range of resources available to support the learning and teaching of this area.

The salary will be based on the national scales with a further 6% added by the Governors of the High School. The successful applicant will be enrolled in the Scottish Teachers’ Superannuation Scheme and the School will pay the employer’s contribution. The appointment is expected to commence on 10th March 2020 and is expected to last for one year.

Candidates must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).

The appointment will be subject to a successful application to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

Application forms should be emailed to adminjs@hsog.co.uk by noon on Friday 8th November 2019.

Interviews will be held towards the end of November.
