Teacher of Mandarin

The Swire Trust is funding the development of a Chinese Language Centre at Jordanhill School. As the work of the centre expands, the school is seeking to appoint a full-time teacher of Mandarin to support the Principal Teacher of Mandarin in delivering the centre's aims and aspirations.

In its first two years the centre has taught Mandarin to all pupils from Primary 5 to Secondary 1 expanding to teach S2 this session at Jordanhill and in our partner schools. From August 2018 Mandarin at National 5 will be taught in all 3 schools with the first presentations in May 2020. Higher Grade and Advanced Higher will be offered in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

The centre also houses a Confucius Classroom. Through our partnership with CISS our pupils have enjoyed multiple opportunities to study in China. In October 2017 26 pupils and 4 staff spent two weeks at our partner school in Tianjin and visiting Beijing. The post holder will be expected to support and participate in such trips.

Appointment of the successful candidate is conditional on a successful PVG check prior to commencement in the post, satisfactory references, presentation of relevant qualifications and confirmation of the right to work in the UK.
