Regius is an independent Christian School for around 27 Primary aged children, situated close to Edinburgh's Newcraighall station. Founded in 1986, it has a vision of providing "Christian Education to Transform a Generation". Small class sizes enable children to learn at a pace that is right for them. Each child's unique abilities are recognised and developed within a caring and inspirational environment.
The close-knit professional Christian teaching team work collaboratively, ensuring that every child is seen and looked after educationally, physically, and spiritually. As well as focusing on educational excellence, Regius values worship and prayer and underpins everything with a culture of honour.
We are looking for a full-time Headteacher to work with our existing team on Mondays-Fridays for 35 hours per week. However, we will consider applications for a part-time Headteacher, with salary being a pro-rata of the full-time rate. The successful candidate will have a passion for advancing Christian education, have extensive experience of working with primary school children and have a good understanding of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, which we use.
The main responsibilities of the School Headteacher are to:
- Translate the Regius vision (see linked file) into agreed objectives and operational plans and demonstrate the vision and values in everyday work.
- Provide leadership and direction to our teaching staff, which comprises three part-time teachers, learning assistants and an administrator.
- Lead and encourage a culture of respect and good behaviour within the school.
- Evaluate the school’s performance and identify the priorities for continuous improvement and raising standards. The Headteacher will regularly maintain the School Improvement Plan and report progress to the Board.
- Take responsibility for providing strategic leadership for curriculum development, learning and teaching and meeting learners’ needs, encouraging the sharing of best practice across the school.
- Work closely with the Directors of the School Board to enable them to meet their responsibilities.
- Perform the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead for the school.
- Fulfil commitments arising from contractual accountability to the governing body.
- Maintain an effective partnership with parents to support and improve pupil’s achievement and personal development.
- Lead and promote the continuing professional development of all staff.
At Regius School the Headteacher is also required to be a working Teacher. We try to match the skillset of our teachers to the age groups that they work with, so your particular skillset will be taken into account during the employment process.
You must have a current Full Primary education GTCS registration. It is desirable, but not essential, that you have already completed Designated Safeguarding Lead training. Successful applicants will be required to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member in respect of Regulated Work with Children.
Previous Senior Leadership experience as a Principal Teacher or Depute Head would be beneficial for this post. Experience of supporting children with Additional Support Needs would also be advantageous for the post.
