Applications are sought from qualified teachers with experience of Support for Learning (SfL) to join the College’s committed SfL department in the Senior School. The post is available from 1 February 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Support for Learning (SfL) department comprises four full-time members of staff and one part-time member of staff, with support from a number of subject teachers on a part-time basis. The SfL department supports a first class education experience for all learners at Robert Gordon’s College. SfL specialists are expected to help ensure high quality education for all pupils in their care and to improve the quality of learning and standards of achievement. SfL staff are expected to work closely with other academic departments to support pupils with their additional learning needs.

Responsible to the Head of Support for Learning, the Teacher of Support for Learning is responsible for developing and supporting a pupil's learning wherever a need is encountered or any barrier to learning is identified. This role is key to equipping pupils with skills and strategies which will help them to succeed independently and with confidence, in their current and future learning environments.

Main Accountabilities

● Plan and present a coherent teaching programme both individually and in partnership with

class teachers

● Providing in-class support across a range of age groups, working in partnership with the

class teacher.

● Teaching assigned classes, working with small groups, or individuals together with

associated preparation and correction

● Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils

● Develop or contribute to the development of teaching and assessment materials with

particular reference to pupils with additional support needs.

● Identify and evaluate resources appropriate to meet the additional support needs of

individual pupils

● Assess and use the results of assessment to evaluate and improve teaching, and the

learning and attainment of pupils

● Contribute to the preparation of pupils for internal and external assessments as

appropriate

● Assist with the administration of internal and external assessments as appropriate

● Provide advice and guidance to pupils and their parents on issues related to their education

Applicants for this position must be highly competent in both written and spoken English and will be asked to demonstrate this as part of the interview process.

The ability to work with online and electronically based systems would be advantageous with a level of teaching support will be provided via an online platform. Knowledge of working with Microsoft Office and Google Drive is also required although full training on the use of the College systems will be given as part of the successful candidate’s induction to the post, with ongoing training provided as part of best practice and continuous professional development.
