Situated ten minutes from the heart of Edinburgh’s bustling West End on a beautiful 15-acre parkland campus, St George’s School for Girls provides an outstanding private education for today’s young women.

Designed exclusively for girls, St George’s is the only all-through girls’ school in Edinburgh (from 2-18 years). The school was founded by pioneering women who were passionate about achieving equal opportunities for their students. We are still pioneers in women’s education, and we never see gender as a barrier to our girls’ aspirations.

The school employs approximately 212 staff and has a school roll of around 800 girls, of whom 50 are boarders. Boys are admitted in the nursery up to the start of their pre-school year.

At St George’s we expect our pupils to encounter opportunities and empowerment in equal measure. This powerful blend allows our pupils to find their voices and develop independence of thought. We achieve this by offering students a broad and rich all-round education with meaningful positions of responsibility from an early age, creating a ‘YES SHE CAN’ mindset, and showing girls that the only ceilings are those in her mind.

With a Junior School size of around 200 girls and a whole school of 800, St George’s is relatively small though the Upper School and Sixth Form are substantial. For their primary education girls are taught in small classes (around 16 – 20), big enough to provide interest and dynamism.

High standards are expected of all St George’s girls and the significant level of individual attention they receive enables them to achieve strong results. Examination results have been consistently outstanding over many years and we are regularly top of the Scottish Independent Schools for our Advanced Higher results.

The school received an excellent school inspection report from Education Scotland. It was awarded the highest possible grading of ‘excellent’ in three categories. It is also highly acclaimed for its pioneering International Exchange Programme.
