The Post

The Business Engagement & Development Administrator will play a central role in delivering the University’s provision for business engagement and development support across the University. Reporting to the Head of Business Engagement & Development, and working closely with the Business Engagement Officer and the Business Development Officers, the role holder will be responsible for all operational and administrative aspects of business engagement and development support. This will include co-ordination and promotion of a diverse programme of events, budget management, coordination of enquiries. They will deliver a highly professional level of administration as the first point of contact for the Business Engagement & Development team.

Description of Duties

  • Manage the operation and administration of the programme of work supporting business engagement and development in relation to commercial opportunities for the University's research outputs
  • Promote events and activities effectively using a range of formats and a variety of different channels. Create/maintain an effective event booking system. Manage and organise room bookings, including equipment, catering, AV and layout. Produce event materials as required. Liaise and work with a variety of external professional partners involved in the events. Gather event attendance and evaluation data
  • Coordinate any follow-up activity to events/enquiries
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping in relation to business engagement activity (eg contacts, meetings, actions etc.)
  • Manage and respond to enquiries by email, phone and in person
  • Ensure that all activities are undertaken within the University's procedures and regulations. Use the University's corporate systems effectively and appropriately
  • Administer the University budget for business engagement and development support and such other funds as may be made available
  • Liaise effectively with academic and professional service colleagues across the University who are involved in business engagement and development activities
  • Provide administrative support to the Head of Business Engagement & Development
  • Undertake such other duties as may be required, commensurate with the grade and nature of the role

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to HNC level or equivalent (where no formal qualifications are held, additional relevant experience is required)
  • Experience working in a busy office
  • Experience of providing advice and guidance in response to customer enquiries
  • Experience of providing effective administrative support to complex processes
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of, and competence in using, a variety of IT systems, including Microsoft Office 365
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines within a busy, demanding workload
  • Flexible, reliable and punctual

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working in a research or business engagement/development environment within the higher education sector
  • Professional training, ideally a formal qualification delivered by a professional body such as ARMA or Praxis AURIL
