ABOUT THE JOB

The DESC (Digital Evidence Sharing Capability) programme is a large scale, complex programme designed to be transformative in its ambition to modernise the Criminal Justice System in Scotland.


Working in conjunction with a 3rd party market leading vendor and software solution the programme seeks to use technology to support the capture, storage, editing and sharing of Digital Evidence between and across Criminal Justice Partners. DESC is also regarded as a critical enabler for further change and transformation in this key area.


The programme involves a range of Criminal Justice Partners including Police Scotland, Scottish Government, Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) and the Defence Community.


ABOUT YOU

You will be educated to degree level in a computer science/software engineering discipline with relevant commercial experience, or where no formal educational experience exists, extensive relevant commercial experience is required.

Successful applicants will possess technical experience as follows:

• Development of enterprise scale applications in Javascript / PHP / HTML

• Experience in developing enterprise grade REST API integration layers

• Experience in the use of JSON and XML for data interchange

• A good working knowledge of SQL and relational databases on enterprise scale developments


Experience of Agile software development methodology is essential.

In addition to strong technical skills, the successful candidate should possess excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and problem solving skills. Using established and emerging software practices, the successful candidate will play a key role in the delivery of enterprise scale applications within Police Scotland. The role requires strong multi-disciplined programming skills as you will be involved in all stages of the development, from the initial conversations through design, development, testing and delivery.


These full time posts are temporary until September 2023 and requires Management Vetting. You will work 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm.
