Police Scotland is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic communications professional to join our busy Corporate Communications news team either in Glasgow or in one of our other locations around the country.

We are the second biggest police service in the UK and feature every day in national and local media. Our National News Desk handles around 3000 media enquiries a month and our digital channels have almost two million followers.

We also have an internal audience of over 22,000 officers and staff, who need timely and accurate information on our day-to-day operations and how we are continuously improving our service to meet the demands of a changing Scotland.

As Senior News Desk Lead you will, along with the News Desk Manager, manage a national news desk providing an end to end communications service in support of Police Scotland’s response to incidents and corporate issues.

You will provide a professional, trusted, proactive and reactive service that enhances public confidence in policing in Scotland by supporting clients with specialist communications advice and guidance and support.

In the absence of the News Desk Manager or at the manager’s request, you will ensure effective operation by resourcing the News Desk during extended hours, with out of hours on call provision to cover a 24/7 operation

We are looking for someone who is passionate about driving positive, creative and impactful communications to assist us to deliver our professional communications practice.

You will have excellent writing skills, be able to grasp complex issues quickly, and be confident about providing proactive and reactive expert advice that takes into account the needs of different audiences.

Ideally you will have experience at supervisory level in the media field including evidence of leading and managing a communications team. You should be educated to at least Degree level in a communications / media discipline or where no formal qualifications exist have significant relevant experience in a Corporate Communications or media environment.

This full time post is 35 hours per week and requires management vetting.
