Police Scotland is the national organisation for policing with a purpose to improve the safety and wellbeing of people, places and communities in Scotland. The service is the second largest in the UK and covers over 28,000 square miles with a workforce of 23,000 officers and staff.

Effective communication is essential to the organisation and we are currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Social Media Officer for up to 24 months to join and support our busy Marketing and Digital Media department during a period of transformation.

As part of the social media team, you will be responsible for managing Police Scotland social networking sites on a daily basis, ensuring they are refreshed with up-to-date, relevant and engaging content. You will be responsible for the co-ordination, implementation and ongoing maintenance of Police Scotland social media plans both nationally and at a divisional level.

You will develop new and innovative ways of using social media channels to promote Police Scotland campaigns and our strategic priorities, engaging with the public and our stakeholders. You will know how to use analytics to be able to evaluate the use of social media and provide monthly reports to the Head of Marketing and Digital. You will also work with the wider Marketing and Digital team to develop advanced social media content such as video, photography and animation.

You will be required to stay up-to-date with social media and other digital developments, advising on any opportunities for, or impact on, Police Scotland.

You will be qualified to Diploma / Degree level or equivalent in Marketing / Communications / PR and have relevant experience of working in a Social Media environment, which is essential. You will have strong IT skills, including good knowledge of Microsoft packages, have excellent communication, project planning and organisational skills. You will have experience of using social media channels in a business environment as part of the communications mix.

You will have the ability to not only work as part of a team, but also be creative and, when necessary, work unsupervised. You will be required to exercise sound judgment and initiative and must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

This full time post is temporary for up to 24 months and will require standard recruitment vetting.
