The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Accountant on a permanent basis. This is a full-time post working 35 hours per week, however, applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered. Flexibility in terms of location will also be considered.
The successful candidate will be required to contribute to the provision of Decision Support within the Service by the development and maintenance of complex finance models to support in-year reporting and short-to-medium term budget setting; contributing to budget holder financial planning and forecasting and providing regular information to resource expenditure budget holders and year-end resource accounting. The successful candidate will also monitor financial controls within their area of responsibility and supervise general, project and payroll ledger reporting and reconciliation whilst ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements at all times.
We are looking for a qualified accountant who has current membership of a recognised accountancy body, e.g. CIPFA, ICAS, ACCA or CIMA with evidence of continuing professional development. Candidates will have previous experience of working within a multi-functional Finance Department and can demonstrate a high level of professionalism, consistency and integrity when dealing with people and various situations.
Candidates must also be self-motivated and excellent at problem-solving, with exceptional analytical and numerical abilities. Accuracy, attention to detail, the ability to work to deadlines and be part of a team covering a range of different tasks are also required. Experience of working within the public sector within a partnering function would be an added advantage.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
