The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Central Staffing Assistant, based within the Central Staffing Hub in Johnstone. There are several full time positions, permanent and temporary, working a shift system of four days on and four days off. Applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.

 

The successful candidates will be required to work as part of a team of Staffing Assistants in planning and arranging operational availability throughout Scotland and will perform core staffing tasks to a high standard. They will be required to maintain availability management systems and be able to meet defined standards, specifications, timescales and stakeholder requirements.

 

Candidates will be educated to HNC level or have equivalent experience. Applicants must be self motivated, have a flexible approach and have the ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Applicants must also have good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word and Excel. Previous experience of working with an availability management system would be advantageous. 

 

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is an emergency service and as such cover must be provided at all times throughout the year. Consequently, the shift system is designed to support this. Working hours will be 12 hour shifts, with one hour unpaid lunch break, working from 07:00 hours until 19:00 hours. The shift pattern will be a four days on four days off cycle, averaging 38.5 hours per week over an 8 week cycle, inclusive of weekends and Public Holidays.

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements.  A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.
