The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the post of Fire Safety Auditing Officer on a permanent basis, base location can be flexible. This is a full-time opportunity working 35 hours per week, however, applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.
The Fire Safety Auditing Officer (AO) based within the Prevention and Protection (P&P) Function supports the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service's Local Enforcement Delivery teams by, assisting with/reviewing Fire Safety Audits/specific fire safety visits, managing aspects of the enforcement database, reporting on national performance and any other enquiries or related workstreams impacting on the Function related to fire safety enforcement related matters.
The function-based Auditing Officer will also be responsible for reviewing policy, procedure and guidance to ensure the Service continues to meet its statutory obligations whilst supporting duty holders undertaking their responsibilities under the Fire Scotland Act 2005. The Fire Safety Auditing Officer will also lead project work and produce written reports and instruction to the wider Service whilst providing feedback and guidance to line management.
Essential Criteria
- Experience of producing written reports to a high standard
- Proficient in the use of various IT applications to effectively collate, analyse and present information
- Proven experience in recording and processing the results or outcomes of technical work, including audits, risk assessments, action plans, etc
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal skills with demonstrable excellent organisational and communication abilities.
- Driving Licence required to travel to premises
- PVG Membership
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of carrying out fire safety inspections or equivalent
- Fire Safety Module qualification or equivalent
- A recognised qualification in Fire Safety or Health and Safety e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH
- Knowledge of current fire safety legislation including Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006
- Knowledge and understanding of SFRS Community Safety Policies and Procedures
- Corporate body membership
- Public Sector experience

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements. A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
