Gap Homes is an ambitious and innovative programme, established in response to the chronic shortage of suitable housing for young people leaving care, and other vulnerable groups. Inadequate accommodation undermines young people's development and progress and reduces the impact of any support provided.

Barnardo's is committed to building 50 new community based houses in partnership with Local Authorities across the UK.

Gap Homes Renfrewshire is the first Gap Homes pilot site in the UK with the first house build completed in December 2019, and with the first young people transitioning from care moving into their homes supported by a holistic wrap around support package.

Due to the success of the pilot and wider Gap Home partnership with Renfrewshire Council and Sanctuary Housing Association we are now looking to expand the Gap Homes Service and therefore are recruiting a Team Manager. The Team Manager will support the Children's Service Manager to lead, manage and develop the service and wider offer to care experienced young people to support a smooth transition to independent living and improve long term outcomes for children and young people.

You will have extensive experience and knowledge of working with children and young people living in care and of the systemic inequalities and barriers care experienced children face and have ideas and solutions of how to partner with CYP and partners to overcome the many structural barriers in place.

Ideally you will have experience of working in a Housing support service and or similar and at least 3 years' experience at Team Manager level.

Essentially you will have;

  • A relevant degree / qualification such as: CL&D , Social Work, Health , Teaching , Social Policy, Housing or equivalent is essential and registration with SSSC or ability to be registered within 6months.
  • A high degree of flexibility to meet the needs of the service and as such the post holder will be expected to work some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the service.
  • A driver's license with access to a vehicle .

Please see the attached role profile below detailing further information .
