We’re looking for a dynamic national lead who can support, drive and improve our policy and practice reforms as we deliver The Promise. You must have an in-depth working knowledge of Children’s Hearings and be committed to improving outcomes for children. Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Practice and Policy Advisors.
  • Collaborate and engage with national partner agencies to improve practice and policy.
  • Implement the National Convener’s strategy to meet s8 of the Children’s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 (‘advice to hearings’).
  • Research, develop and write organisational policy and procedures.
  • Develop and update practice information and resources.
  • Lead the development of good hearings management.
  • Ensure that all training is developed in accordance with legislation and practice.
  • Conduct complaint and concern investigations and reviews.
  • Response and expert support to colleagues and members of our volunteer community.
  • Continuously improve the effectiveness of the Practice and Policy function.

Our Practice & Policy Team

The Practice and Policy Team comprises of eight staff who are responsible for supporting panel members across Scotland to make some of the most difficult decisions in public life in Scotland. We proactively gather feedback to improve practice and policy at every opportunity. The Team provides high quality expertise and collaborates with a wide range of national stakeholders. At the core of our work is a shared vision that everything we do enhances the rights of children. We aim to be strategic, credible, influential and drive change.


Life at CHS

Our 2,500 volunteer Panel Members take part in children’s hearings in their local areas, making decisions with and for children. Our organisation also supports a network of 22 Area Support Teams made up of 400 volunteers who support Panel Members in their local communities.
