Common Thread is passionate and committed to maximise the full potential and improve life chances of vulnerable young people whose behaviour may sometimes present as a challenge. We provide education for young people between the ages of 8 and 18 years, who have experienced significant trauma, neglect and/or abuse and have become detached from mainstream education. We aim to make our young people’s experience with us a really positive time, encouraging growth in confidence, achievement and attainment.

In this newly created role we are looking for someone who has a proven track record working in the field of complex additional support needs and who has the vision and professional skills to contribute to the ongoing continuous professional development of our schools. The successful candidate will have the necessary management experience and skills to provide strong leadership and support to our teachers and support staff and to implement our schools improvement plan as well as leading classes when necessary.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be able to demonstrate a particular ability to relate to our young people and liaise and collaborate with a wide range of professionals, parents, local authorities and other agencies.

The role will be based at our two schools in Dumfries and Kilmarnock. Membership of the GTCS is essential, as is a full Driving Licence.

Our starting salary is c£40,000 per annum, plus car allowance and our hours of work are 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.
