Chief Executive
£137,070 (pay award pending)

COSLA is the voice of Local Government in Scotland. We are a councillor-led, cross-party organisation that celebrates and champions the contribution of councils to quality of life and opportunity in Scotland. Our role as a combined voice for all councils is incredibly important in shining a light on key issues of policy, funding and legislation and how these impact at a local level. We are the national voice for local issues, bringing a keen appreciation of the countless daily interactions between councils and their communities and the difference these make to people’s lives.

Our new Chief Executive will play the central role in building on our achievements over recent years and delivering on the priorities we have identified in our current five-year plan. This is a high profile and influential role where you will work to bring about change at a system level. It demands a detailed and nuanced understanding of the Scottish political landscape, coupled with the personal skills to foster positive relationships across different political perspectives. The ability to identify common ground and shared objectives, while recognising the fundamental importance of different political beliefs and local priorities will be key to building momentum and consensus behind initiatives.

Few roles offer such scope and potential. That’s why we expect you’ll already have a track record of achievement in leadership roles. This is a unique opportunity to draw on this depth and breadth of experience to enhance the profile and the potential of local government in Scotland.
