Job Description

COSLA is the voice of local government in Scotland. As a councillor-led, cross-party organisation we champion councils’ vital work to secure the resources and powers they need. We work on Councils' behalf to focus on the challenges and opportunities they face, and to engage positively with governments and others on policy, funding and legislation.

To be considered for this role you must be self-starting and proactive. To succeed in this role, you’ll need to bring broad, up-to-date technical knowledge, a drive to deliver business improvements and excellent customer service skills.

As well as having full day to day responsibility for keeping COSLA’s ICT running smoothly and securely, you will contribute to the on-going development of our ICT strategy and put in place measures to strengthen our organisational ICT resilience including cyber security, as well as upskilling our employees. You will be interested in delivering business improvements through the use of ICT and will also be responsible for the maintenance and development of our conference centre infrastructure.

In addition, you will focus particularly on the Microsoft Office 365 suite of applications and Windows operating systems. You will also need the following:

  • Direct experience of the MS 365 family of products (SharePoint, Exchange, Microsoft Teams, and Intune)
  • Practical experience of basic networking
  • Practical experience of 1st to 3rd Line support
  • Practical experience of monitoring backups and disaster recovery
  • Practical experience of installing, maintaining and upgrading devices
  • Direct experience of Active Directory and Group Policy for managing network users.
  • Practical experience in the use of servers and desktops, ideally using Server 2012- 2019
  • Practical experience of configuring and monitoring advanced email protection
  • Supplier management skills

This post is based in our office in the heart of Edinburgh’s West End, but most employees are currently working from home due to Covid-19.

Occasional travel to our offices in Glasgow and East Renfrewshire is a feature of the job.
