In March, COSLA and the Scottish Government published ‘Ending Destitution Together 2021-24’, the national strategy to tackle destitution and better protect the human rights of people with No Recourse to Public Funds.
We are now recruiting a Policy and Participation Officer to help us to deliver on the aims and ambitions of the strategy. This is a crucial role that will help to develop policies and strengthen the design and delivery of services for people with no recourse to public funds and insecure immigration status.
It will require close working with local authorities and a good understanding of immigration policy and/or public sector services to tackle poverty in Scotland. It will also include partnerships with people with lived experience of destitution and the immigration system and the organisations that support them. This is a new role that will require a strong commitment to human rights and will focus on supporting people at risk of destitution – including work to strengthen local policies and practices to tackle homelessness and rough sleeping, strengthen social services support; enhance financial and food security and work to address public health risks and inequalities.
The vacancy is fixed term in the first instance (to 30 September 2022) with the possibility of extension for the length of the strategy. This post is within our Migration Population and Diversity Team and will be based in our office in Bath Street, Glasgow, although all employees are currently working from home.
The deadline for applications is midnight on 10 October and interviews are expected to take place on 21 October.
