Who are we?

Kibble is Scotland’s specialist provider of services for at risk children and young people. By providing a range of integrated services, we help build positive futures for children and young people aged 5 plus, with complex social, emotional and educational needs.

What is the job function?

We are seeking a Temporary Service Manager to join our mid-management team and be responsible for the running of designated services at night, both on and off campus. This will include the management of staff and other resources to ensure the best possible environment and care for our young people. Please note that a driving licence is essential for this post.

Main Duties

The Service Manager Nights will be responsible for:

· Undertaking the Duty Manager role at night which includes ensuring all units are adequately staffed, being the first point of contact for night staff across the services, managing emergency/respite admissions, liaising with social work out of hours services, parents, senior management and police as appropriate.

· You will develop a care planning system and ensuring that staff produce and maintain appropriate care plans for each young person

· Deputising for the Night Care Manager as necessary and contribute to the development of the service to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of a changing client group;

· You will be providing an appropriate level of guidance and support to staff, both formally and informally;

· Assisting in the production of Service Development Plans and coordinating the personal and professional development of staff while also maintaining your own continuing professional development, both through opportunities offered by Kibble and by using own resources and initiative;

· Ensuring that staff awareness of Health and Safety rules and regulations is maintained at all times;

· Maintaining an awareness and understanding of the services provided by the other parts of the Centre;

Undertaking any other reasonable duties as may be delegated by Kibble’s management from time to time

Who are we looking for?

To be successful you must be able to:

· Respond positively and calmly to physical and verbal aggression.

· Understand the dynamics of relationships between the young people in the house and in the community, ensuring that action is taken to stop bullying, prevent isolation, avoid unhelpful friendships or pressure for sexual activities or substance, drugs and alcohol misuse.

· Establish relationships with young people within which incidents of physical, emotional or mental abuse can be revealed.

· Understand the roles and responsibilities of all individuals, groups and organisations that are involved in the care of the young people both within and outwith the Centre.

· Work unsupervised and on own initiative.

· Communicate clearly and precisely orally and in writing both within the Centre and with external agencies.

· Manage and motivate self in forming and sustaining relationships with children and young people, in working with internal and external colleagues and in undertaking administrative and allied duties.

What qualification and experience are we looking for?

· Possession of Introduction to Social Pedagogy or/SVQ4 or equivalent.

· Three years’ experience of working with young people in residential/day care.

· Wide experience of group and individual work;

· Ability to build trusting relationships with young people and staff;

· Ability to represent the organisation professionally with external agencies, including representation at all appropriate meetings;

· Experience of motivating and leading others and providing support and guidance to staff or peers;

· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written

· Possess a full driving licence, and be willing and able to drive school transport

· Possess current membership of the SSSC

· Able to evidence a commitment to Continuing Professional Development and to provide an up to date PRTL record.
