Be part of a team helping communities and rural businesses harness the power of renewable technologies.

The role

Following the internal promotion of personnel within Scarf, we now have a vacancy for a Local Energy Systems Development Specialist to provide a key role within the Local Energy Scotland team.

Local Energy Scotland is led by the Energy Saving Trust and comprises a consortium of four Scottish based charities delivering the Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) on behalf of the Scottish Government. CARES is a flagship programme that supports the development of local energy projects in Scotland, helping local people and communities develop, invest in, and benefit from renewable energy projects. For further information on the CARES programme visit https://localenergy.scot/.

The Local Energy Systems Development Specialist role will provide strategic direction and support for projects with a focus on local energy systems, where multiple technologies are delivered as part of a project and where there is a whole-system view considering electricity, heat, energy storage and transport.

In addition to managing, leading and supporting funded projects, this role is expected to seek opportunities to develop a variety of CARES funding packages, appropriate tools, specific guidance and business models to enhance all stages and delivery of local energy projects.

This role is responsible for meeting the delivery of key performance indicators set out in the work plan and is anticipated to develop partnership working to support these.

As a specialist the role is responsible for directly providing or organising additional expert training, support and advice in the development of Local Energy Systems projects to a variety of internal and external parties, including Local Energy Scotland’s team of Development Officers, applicants and their partners in receipt of CARES funding, workshop and event attendees, including those at the CARES conference and other partners and stakeholders involved in Local Energy System projects.

Responsibilities of a Local Heat Development Specialist

  • Develop, maintain and promote an effective package of support for the development of community renewable energy projects.
  • Provide support for CARES colleagues in the development of projects.
  • Directly support projects as required, meeting agreed targets whilst delivering an excellent standard of service.
  • Represent Scarf and Local Energy Scotland to key partners.

Responsibilities, qualifications, skills and additional skills are detailed in the job description, which you can find attached.
