Our £2bn portfolio of collaborative contracts supports the delivery of savings, social value, community benefits, fair work practices and environmental policy, and covers a wide range of public services including construction, roads, transport, environment, corporate and education.

Scotland Excel also develops and manages arrangements which support the commissioning of care services for children and adults. Our national care contracts are developed in partnership with care professionals, including care providers, to support person-centred outcomes embedded within national policy.

We also provide procurement and consultancy services to help our members get the most from their procurement resources, ranging from ad-hoc tendering support through to transformation programmes and strategic procurement partnerships.

The Scotland Excel Academy offers applied learning programmes leading to accredited qualifications in procurement, leadership and management, coaching and mentoring, project management and business analysis, as well as short courses and workshops.

Scotland Excel is a non-profit organisation working with members from across the public sector including local authorities, health and social care partnerships, housing associations, and other public and third sector organisations.

About the role

Scotland Excel is seeking a Business Services Specialist to join our Business Services Team within the wider Customer Services function. This exciting opportunity will provide you with a wide range of duties and will allow you to utilise and build on your skills and experience in providing a key service across the organisation.

Reporting to the Customer Services Manager your main role will be to support a range of business support and administration services to internal and external stakeholders under the guidance of the Senior Business Services Specialists who provide finance and human resources services to the organisation. You will maintain a close working relationship with the Senior Business Services Specialists and wider Customer Services Team colleagues, developing effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and partners and ensure that support services delivered are aligned with Scotland Excel’s strategic objectives and values.

As your main role will be to support the finance and human resources functions within the team this is a great opportunity to build on your existing skills and experience. You will be able to demonstrate your flexibility and adaptability as you may be called on to multi-task, supporting both disciplines simultaneously.

You will maintain policies, procedures and processes that underpin the efficient delivery of financial services on behalf of the organization. Specifically, you will support the process of purchase orders and invoices including generation of the same. You will also ensure the effective management of processes that control petty cash, staff expenses and amendments to payroll systems. You will also Support the Senior Business Services Specialist in maintaining finance systems and assisting in producing budgetary reports as and when required.

You will be able to demonstrate an understanding of key Human Resources policies and will be able to assist in maintaining our policies and procedures, updating these as and when necessary. A key role will be in assisting with the creation and maintenance of personal files and you will be able to follow confidential business administration practices at all times and in all aspects of the HR function. You will be required to take responsibility for confidential handling and processing of employee and personal information.

You will also be given the opportunity to support the administration of the recruitment process to achieve efficient and cost-effective outcomes and to comply with the necessary recruitment processes. You will assist in the compilation of job adverts as required and will liaise with external parties in ensuring that the most cost-effective channels are used to recruit staff. You will also assist in payroll administration as and when required.

You will also be able to demonstrate your IT and analytical skills in manipulating information sets, maintaining records and compiling management information reports as required. You will have excellent experience in Microsoft Office applications and bespoke finance/HR systems.
