Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, the post holder will assist SPS Senior Management, in particular the Major Projects Management Group, in the development and management of the Strategic Capital Plan and the monitoring of live capital projects. The post holder will be responsible for monitoring the SPS Capital Budget, including completion, submission and review of capital financial plans, ensuring that total budget allocation remains within the Budget Statement funding. The role is also responsible for maintaining the SPS Fixed Asset Register, including the SPS Lease register, “right of use” assets and PFI contracts, ensuring that all entries are accurate and in line with relevant accounting standards and can withstand detailed audit scrutiny.

The role will provide technical advice, support and guidance to senior management and budget holders on budgeting and forecast outturns, financial planning and risk management, preparation of business cases, capital accounting guidance, leasing guidance, delegations and governance.

The role is a hybrid role of homeworking and based at the SPS Headquarters which is situated in Edinburgh, however there may be a requirement for you to travel to other SPS sites and locations.

Criteria for the role includes;

  • Fully qualified accountant with membership of a recognised professional accountancy body e.g. ACCA, CIPFA, CIMA.
  • Experience of coordinating and managing capital budgets and leases.
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplined environment with the ability to influence a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing fixed assets and accounting for leases and the involvement in the production of statutory accounts.
  • Ability to analyse and evaluate information, recognise potential issues and find effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relations with a wide range of contacts, able to relate technical information to non-financial colleagues.
  • Ability to effectively prioritise your workload to meet departmental and organisational deadlines.
